Angie Wootton, PhD MSW Social worker, researcher & teacher

I research and publish on topics such as...
My current research program focuses on health and behavioral health inequities in the LGBTQ+ community, primarily sexual minority women, transgender and gender non-binary people, and those experiencing multiple intersecting forms of stigma, discrimination, and exclusion.
Broadly, my research lines focus on three interrelated domains:
(a) furthering our theoretical and empirical understanding of resilience and social connection among LGBTQ+ community members experiencing behavioral health concerns (e.g., depression, anxiety, and alcohol use disorder)
(b) evaluating the impacts of social and policy changes on LGBTQ+ community wellbeing
(c) developing integrated health and behavioral health interventions to support LGBTQ+ community health.
Most of my work is team-based science done in tandem with researchers from other universities. I use mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative).
Full text PDFs of my published research are available on ResearchGate

As a graduate student instructor, I have provided support for courses including...
My teaching interests include areas such as...
Within social work, I can teach both generalist social work curriculum and advanced clinical practice courses since I have 2+ years of post-MSW practice experience, as required by CSWE.
I also provide research and evaluation, capacity-building, and strategic planning to help increase the impact of non-profit and public health organizations. As a social justice-oriented individual, I believe that well-designed and implemented community interventions have the potential to shift society towards greater equity, justice, and inclusion.
I currently serve on a the board of a non-profit organization providing immigration legal services and am open to additional BOD opportunities.
I'd love to hear from you about collaborating on projects, your current work that overlaps with mine, etc.
